Oshi No Ko and Vinland Saga’s latest season also made this year’s list

The 2024 Anime Awards are just around the corner, and anime fans are eagerly waiting to see which shows, movies, and creators will take home the coveted prizes. The nominations were announced by Crunchyroll on Wednesday, and they feature a mix of popular and critically acclaimed titles, as well as some surprises and newcomers.

Among the nominees, two series stand out for their dominance: Chainsaw Man and Jujutsu Kaisen season 2. Both are adaptations of hit manga series by MAPPA, a studio that has been making waves in the anime industry with its high-quality and diverse productions. Chainsaw Man leads the pack with 25 nominations, followed by Jujutsu Kaisen season 2 with 17. Both are contenders for the Anime of the Year award, along with Bocchi The Rock!, Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba Swordsmith Village Arc, Oshi No Ko, and Vinland Saga season 2.

Other notable nominations include Suzume, Blue Giant, and The First Slam Dunk for Best Film; Mobile Suit Gundam the Witch From Mercury, Do It Yourself!!, and Akiba Maid War for Best Original Anime; and Chainsaw Man and Jujutsu Kaisen season 2 for Best Director. The latter category is especially interesting, as both directors, Ryu Nakayama and Shota Goshozono, have recently left MAPPA to start their own studios, Andraft and E&H Production, respectively.

The Anime Awards are decided by a combination of fan votes and judges’ votes, with the former open until Jan. 27 at 2:59 AM ET. The winners will be revealed on March 2, during a live stream on Crunchyroll’s Anime Awards website.
